"Was leaving India and Coming to America A Life Mistake?"
~ Vivek Wadhwa & Navneet Chugh ~
Immigration has always been America's greatest advantage. Through its history, immigrants have continually enriched American society and created the force that drove its people to excel--by causing the generations before them to work harder and to compete for jobs. And when immigrants came to America--whether on Mayflower or Air-India--they bought one-way tickets. But for the first time in American history, immigrants are leaving its shores and returning to better opportunities back in their home countries .
Vivek Wadha has documented the contribution of skilled immigrants to the U.S economy and the brain drain that the U.S is presently experiencing. He has also researched entrepreneurship, the globalization of R&D, and the rise of India and China. He will discuss this research, including the reasons for the success of Indians--who are the dominant company founding immigrant group in the U.S., the factors causing them to leave the U.S., how the returnees are doing back home, and what this means for the economies of India and the U.S.
Navneet S. Chugh is an eminent attorney; Managing Partner of the global law practice The Chugh Firm; President TiE, South California; Founder President of the North American South Asian Bar Association; Board Member of the American Indian Foundation and a member of the California Southwest Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization. Navneet serves on several corporate and non-profit boards.
This event is co-sponsored by South Asian Bar Association; Silicon Valley Indian Professionals Association; Immigration Voice and Asia Society

"Career Management in Good and Bad Economy, Organized jointly by SIPA and SAMBAA"
Managing your career in good economy is as difficult as it is in managing it in bad. Why?
In good economy there are more opportunities, but there are also more people competing for those opportunities because they are willing to take more risk in such times. In bad economies there are "fewer" opportunities, but then there are also fewer people competing for them because of the risk involved in change.
Attend this interactive session led by Dilip Saraf, LinkedIn's #1 Career & Life Coach to learn about how to put your career in the high gear and maintain it regardless of the ambient economic conditions.
Also, to get the most out of this session bring your own career challenges and successes to share them with others and to get some free guidance. Be prepared to volunteer with your career related goals and hindrances as Mr. Saraf may call you out!

"How to make effective presentations: how to structure and create effective presentation content"
- Are you an engineer making a presentation to management or a customer?
- Are you a consultant presenting a proposal to a client?
- Are you an entrepreneur, making a pitch to a VC?
- Are you a professional who relies on making an effective presentation pitch?
If you answered Yes, then you should attend this event.
Effectively communicating in a "presentation" setting is a key skill for everyone - yet most of us are let loose with PowerPoint without any training. You have no doubt experienced the results -- seemingly endless presentations that send you to sleep rather than inform and inspire. This talk will address how to prepare and structure an effective presentation based on proven psychological principles, share a few PowerPoint tips, and offer advice on how to get people within your organization thinking differently about presentations.
We have invited a distinguished speakers for the event -
Andrew is senior vice president of marketing and business development at Metaswitch Networks, a leading telecommunications equipment and software vendor. He has studied and taught the techniques of effective presentations within his own company (where he championed a new approach to communications from the CEO down) and at the Haas School of Business at Berkeley. He is a graduate of the Berkeley-Columbia MBA program, and has Masters degrees in Software Engineering, Philosophy and Mathematics from the Universities of Stirling and Oxford in the UK.

09:45 - 11:00AM - | Panel Discussion - Enterprise Applications in the Web 2.0 world Show More | Show Less Panel - Emerging Trends in the evolution of Enterprise Technology
Imagine social networks integrated with your CRM to make the sales force more proactive and productive. We witnessed a huge surge in Web 2.0, Saas and Cloud computing in the consumer space in the last few years, which is where new technologies get their grounding. These technologies are now inching towards the enterprise. Or are they? Sure enough, all technologies have to be remolded as they shift from B2C to the more mature B2B space. This is where fundamental issues have to be tackled - security, reliability, performance and so on. So how well is Web 2.0 ready for the enterprise and vice versa? Do they replace our current portfolio of enterprise technologies or merely complement them. Let's hear from a panel of Enterprise technology leaders who will discuss how new technologies are reshaping the Enterprise. More importantly, what new skills or training do we need to learn. It is safe to say that none of the existing solutions like Oracle or SAP will be replaced overnight, but what is interesting is how the new will find its way to co-exist. That's where true opportunities lie.

The last 12-18 months was a period of economic turmoil rarely seen in recent history. Anything that could have gone wrong, from the economic standpoint, did go wrong. We have weathered the worst and that the long road to recovery has already begun. Silicon Valley has seen its share of ups and downs, even before the time it was called Silicon Valley. Who would have thought that after the dot com bust companies like Google, Youtube, MySpace, Facebook and so many others could have flourished.
Every disruption in times long gone and recently has led to innovation. In the past several decades technology has reshaped society. It is highly possible that now the circumstances of our society will drive the business and technological innovation of tomorrow.
Without doubt, the road to recovery will be long and hard. The standard business rules might not be as effective. There is a new playbook that each one has to play by. So how do we as professionals evolve in this new economy? Will there really be new business models? Has the entrepreneurial paradigm changed? Do we as professionals need to learn new tools and technologies? Where does the next opportunity lie? What is the future of the economy and what are the economies of the future?
As someone said recently, however one chooses to answer these questions, it will be wrong. But we have to make a start and start with a thoughtful discussion. At Silicon Valley 2010 and beyond, we are going to give you that start. With keynotes from some of the most respected business leaders, to panels of some of the experts already sketching out parts of the new roadmap, to motivators who will provide us with the necessary tools to succeed in the new tomorrow.
